Who Is an Emerging Leader?

Whether it’s the PTA volunteer who organizes the multicultural night at your campus or a co-worker who organizes a reading program at the local library, leaders can be found in every corner of our communities. ELA seeks to support a diverse group of volunteers who are committed to creating successful schools through these fundamental characteristics:

• Demonstrates a passion for our vision that every child’s potential is a reality.

• Exhibits visionary and forward-thinking leadership qualities.

• Reflects professionalism, integrity and PTA values.

• Believes PTA should be an inclusive association for all.

• Strives to increase family engagement through programs and PTA membership.

• Seeks personal development to provide long-term leadership within their community. 

Dates for 2022-2023 ELA Sessions 

Session 1 - November 5 - 7, 2022

Session 2 - December 3 - 4, 2022

Session 3 - February 11-12, 2023

Session 4 - April 15 - 17, 2023

Attendance at all ELA activities (four sessions per year) is critical to the success of the program. Before applying, it is recommended that you review the session dates listed above and confirm you are available to attend all sessions.

Tips for Applying 

Once an online application is started, any information entered will not be saved if the application is closed before completion. We suggest preparing your responses in advance to help ensure a smooth application process.

You will be asked to answer these four free response questions in your application. All responses must be 50-250 words.

1. Texas PTA's vision is that every child's potential is a reality. Describe how your participation in the Emerging Leaders Academy will support your work in your own community towards achieving this goal. 
2. Describe a leadership experience within PTA or another community organization. Consider the following: What did you accomplish? What made it different from other experiences? What did you learn about yourself or others?
3. Identify the most challenging task or assignment that you have accepted. Describe why it was a challenge, how you overcame any barriers, and the results of your efforts.
4. Choose two leadership qualities that you would like to enhance or develop, and describe the value of mastering those skills.

You will also be asked to identify three references when submitting your application.
